Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park In-Person Field Trips
In-Person field trips are available at Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park!
A student field trip to Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park is a fantastic opportunity to connect with nature and experience the great outdoors. Upon arrival, buses can park at the Day Use Area, which is conveniently located inside the park . Restroom facilities are available on site. During lunchtime, students can enjoy a picnic at one of the park's many tables while surrounded by Coast Redwoods and the Smith River. To ensure a peaceful and enjoyable experience, we only allow two school groups per day. While exploring the park, students can marvel at the towering redwoods and learn about the fascinating network of mycelium that supports the forest's ecosystem. This field trip is a great opportunity for students to gain real-world experience while connecting with nature and having fun.
Guided Field Trips
Join us for a 2-3 hour guided field trip at Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park! Before your field trip, you will get to choose activities that will fit the unit standards and needs of your class. Students will learn about the park’s natural and cultural heritage by exploring our redwood forests, its habitats, stories, and places. From the Smith River watershed to , old-growth redwood forests have something for everyone.
Field trips generally include:
An introduction to the park,
A guided nature walk,
And an educational, physical, or creative activity.
Field trips are hosted entirely outdoors, be prepared for hikes and activities in the forest. Our interpreters are very flexible and happy to design an experience for you and your students.
Field Trips are available throughout the school year. Guided field trips typically take 2-3 hours to complete, with a maximum group size of 50 students and a preferred adult to student ratio of 1:10.
After your field trip, you are more than welcome to explore the park whilst following established park rules. Upon completion of your field trip reservation, you will receive a confirmation email with information on how to prepare for and reflect on your field trip.
