Indigenous Miwok Culture of the Sierra Nevada

Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park preserves the largest grinding rock in North America. This site was home to a large Sierra Miwok village and gathering place for generations.

During this virtual field trip, students will understand how the Sierra Miwok culture used the natural landscape around them, and how the cultural traditions of the past continue to be celebrated.
